xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, is broadening access to its Grok chatbot through a new iOS application, currently in beta testing across select countries including Australia. This expansion marks a significant shift from Grok’s previous exclusivity to X (formerly Twitter) platform users.
The standalone application showcases comprehensive AI capabilities, incorporating real-time data access from both the internet and X platform. Its features encompass text manipulation, including rewriting and summarization functions, along with question-answering capabilities. Notable among its offerings is an image generation system that demonstrates particular strength in photorealistic rendering.
In parallel with the mobile application launch, xAI is developing Grok.com, a dedicated web platform intended to provide browser-based access to the chatbot’s services. While currently displaying a “coming soon” message for xAI account holders, this development signals the company’s commitment to expanding its service accessibility.
This strategic expansion follows xAI’s recent modification of its access model. Previously restricted to X’s premium subscribers, Grok has transitioned to offering a free-tier version, making its services available to a broader user base earlier this month. Notably, the platform’s image generation capabilities operate with fewer restrictions compared to competitors, permitting the creation of images using public figures and copyrighted material.
These developments represent xAI’s efforts to establish a more prominent position in the competitive AI marketplace while maintaining its distinctive approach to content generation and accessibility.
